Long Acting Nitrate (Isosorbide Dinitrite, Isordil) and Propranolol Synergism in Severe Angina Pectoris

Abstract
Seven cases of severe angina pectoris were studied during a period froth January 1973 to November 1974, and following results were obtained.
1. Average age of onset was 55 years of age and all male cares except for only one female were noted.
2. Precipitating causes of angina pectoris were severe unstable types irrespective-of physical exertion with two cases of acute myocardial infarction.
3. Preceding or complicating diseases were hypertension (4 cases), hemiplegia due to C.V.A. (2 cases), and diabetes mellitus (1 case).
4. Administered dosage of ISDN and Propranolol were respectively 15 to 40mg/day and 60 to 80mg/day divided 3 times before meal.
5. The findings of ECG were LVH in 4 cases, acute myocardial infarction in 2 cases and WPW syndromes in 1 case, and improved findings in Master¢¥s single two-step exercise test done in 2 cases.
6. Serum cholesterol levels were elevated in all cases.
7. Side effects of ISDN and Propranolol were very rare except t slight lowering blood pressure, dizziness and headache.
